The non-vegetarians savor a spicy lamb dish called the Achari mutton that has tender lamb meat pickled in Indian spices and condiments including red chilies, fenugreek seeds, cumin seeds, mustard and fennel seeds, cardamom, ajwain , cloves, bay leaf, etc. The dish is served with lachchha parathas and naan , that are basically Punjabi flat breads made from refined flour.
Chicken Tandoori is a common Indian appetizer that is a part of the Punjabi cuisine. The dish is made by cooking chicken pieces marinated in spices and curd in tandoor, that is a coarse cylindrical oven. The tandoor oven was first used in the North west Frontier, but is now widely used in preparing Punjabi flat breads and other delicacies. The marinated chicken is placed on a skewer and then lowered in a heated oven that is heated by charcoal or wood, adding to the smokey flavor of the dish.
It is served with a little bit of lime juice squeezed on top, along with onions and green chilies. Chicken saagwaala or Murg Saagwaala is the healthier version of the chicken butter masala. It has a lighter curry that is made up on mainly spinach and almost no cream and cooked in spices like turmeric haldi , cinammon daalchini , peppercorns, cardamom, cloves, cumin and garam masala.
Pindi chana masala is a dry vegetarian dish that is one of the signature dishes of the Punjabi cuisine. Pindi chana is served with raw onion slices, tomato slices and green chilies. This combination of corn flour flat bread with cooked mustard greens needs no introduction. The dish is delicious, healthy and extremely nutritious.
Baisakhi also known as Vaisakhi, Vaishakhi or Vasakhi is one of the most important festivals in Sikhism. It is usually celebrated on April 13 or April 14 every year. This year it is being celebrated on April 13, The Khalsa panth of warriors was created by Guru Gobind Singh in They are also called Panj Pyare.
Vaisakhi or Baisakhi is also a spring harvest festival for Sikhs. This cheerful festival is celebrated to mark the last of the coldest days of winter and is traditionally associated with the harvest of the rabi crops. The festival is also regarded as the financial new year for the Punjabi farmers. On the celebration day of Lohri, people gather around bonfire and throw sweets, popcorns and puffed rice in the flame. People move around the fire, sing Lohri songs and dance the bhangra and gidda to the beat of the dhol.
